Dara Aldy

I'm originally from Mississippi and blessed to be married to Dennis, my dearest friend of 38 years. I'm living my absolute dream as a mother of
7 amazing children! I'm a pastor's wife with a deep love for my faith, my family, and my church community. And now I'm a proud "Mimi" to 8 beautiful grandkids!

My Journey to Motherhood & Birth Work

My passion for birth work began long before I knew about doulas. As a young wife, my husband and I spent time with families we deeply admired. The more I observed these mothers -- loving and serving their families, the more I fell in love with the role of "mother" – knowing it would become the highest calling on my life.

In 1989, when I became pregnant with our first child, we discovered the wonderful world of midwifery and natural birth. Inspired by this approach, we transferred care to a midwife, and although the labor was long and hard, I absolutely loved giving birth. Over the next 13 years, we welcomed all 7 of our babies in the peace and safety of our home, each experience impacting me deeply.

The miracle of giving birth marked me forever.

From Friend to Professional Doula

Almost immediately, friends began inviting me to come to their births. Without knowing this was a newly recognized role in the childbirth world, I simply went as a servant-hearted friend – bringing assistance, comfort, and peace to their birth experiences. Sometimes I was there to help them avoid an epidural, other times to support them in waiting as long as possible before getting one.

Years later, when I heard the word "doula" and its beautiful definition ---"female servant," I knew I had found another life's calling. My heart came alive as I offered these women the care they needed to give birth in faith and peace.  I was eager to learn more about the doula role and the many ways to support birthing mothers.

Over the years, I've added training, skills, and tools to my experience as a Birth Doula. Today I am a GEM-Certified Doula.

When I'm not at a birth, I'm mothering something or someone.  I love mentoring young mothers, spending time with my family, caring for my houseplants, and growing flowers in my greenhouse.

It would be my joy to serve you and help you get ready to have your baby.

Melissa Porter

Hi, I'm Mel! As a wife, mother of four, and devoted follower of the Lord Jesus, I understand firsthand the profound journey of bringing new life into the world. I'm a GEM-Certified birth doula who has been supporting families in the Kansas City area for 8 years. My heart for serving others began early in life. I had a sister born prematurely who developed cerebral palsy, and I spent my young life caring for her.

This experience grew in me a deep love for serving and helping others. I was blessed to work with the elderly throughout high school and college as a CNA in assisted living facilities and hospice care. Later, I joined my husband in the Army Reserves and had the honor of serving my country on a deployment to Iraq and Kuwait alongside him.

My calling to become a doula grew from my own birth experience. After feeling unprepared and unsupported during my first birth, I knew I wanted to ensure no other mother would walk that path alone. All four of my children were born unmedicated, deepening my appreciation for the strength women possess and the support they deserve during this sacred time.I believe birth is both a miraculous physical event and a deeply spiritual experience.

My heart is to provide gentle, quiet care while empowering you with education and helping your partner become your strongest support and encourager. I offer childbirth education and breastfeeding support, always honoring your unique preferences and providing evidence-based information about your options.Whether you're planning a hospital birth with epidural, C-section, VBAC, home birth, or natural hospital birth, I'm here to support whatever path feels right for your family.

Every birth story is beautiful and deserves to be honored. When I'm not supporting birthing families, you'll find me homeschooling my children, tending our small homestead, gardening, reading, hiking, or planning family adventures. I'm based in Grandview and serve families throughout the greater Kansas City area.
